First figurative drawings

"In the sense that drawing is, for him, the most important indication of an artist’s integrity, Ferdinand Springer, like any artist who received a classical education, considered drawing to be of primordial importance. Indeed, the drawings he made in the 30’s demonstrate that he also excelled in figurative art. As a gifted drawer, he turned to etching and the demanding chisel technique that he acquired from Stanley Hayter at Atelier 17 in 1932 as these best met his requirements. "Emmanuelle Foster.

The choice of drawings shown below which are of variable size- generally less than 20x30 cm - illustrates his travels in France and southern Europe.
