Books/illustrations

Ferdinand Springer illustrated a number of books with his drawings or engravings, the list of which is given below (under Bibliography and links). Only the illustrations of Plato's Symposium are shown here. The book was published by "The Friends of Socrates" in London in 1937 (in English) and contains 8 original engravings.

The Symposium of Socrates

“Be aware that he is not bothered by whether someone is beautiful or rich, he despises this far beyond what you could imagine; nor does he value anyone for possessing any other honour from the things which are considered as blessed by the multitude. But he thinks that all these possessions are worthless, and that we are nothing. He also passes the whole of his life among men in irony and jest.” (The praise of Socrates by Alcibiades, the Symposium)
